MANURE FROM MILLIONS OF HOGS FUELS TO FUEL NATURAL GAS PROJECT
One recipe for renewable natural gas goes: Place manure from about 2 million hogs in lagoons, cover with an impermeable layer and let it bake until gas from the manure rises. Then use special equipment to clean the gas of its impurities and ship the finished product.
That is the vision of one of the largest biogas projects of its kind in the United States currently being installed in northern Missouri, part of a long-term effort to turn underused agriculture resources into an engine for environmentally friendly farming practices. Read the full story.

THIS HOUSE RUNS ON POOP AND FOOD WASTE
An abandoned farm in rural Spain, a mile from the nearest tiny village, is the unlikely site of cutting-edge energy technology. The new farmhouse under construction on the property will eventually be powered partly by the owners’ poop.
The mini waste-to-energy system takes organic waste—straight from toilets, from kitchen scraps, and from horse manure on the farm—and converts it into energy that can provide hot water, heat, and gas for cooking. Continue reading the story.
HOW THIS NEW YORKER TRANSFORMED NEWSPAPER RACKS INTO COMPOSTING BINS
The former New York Daily News graphic designer Debbie Ullman has been excited about composting for about nine years now. She decided to use her designing chops to get other New Yorkers pumped about the process, as well.

OCTOBER 2015 BECOMES FIRST MONTH TO CROSS KEY GLOBAL WARMING BOUNDARY
Troubling News — The planet has not been only record warm this year, it’s been so unusually mild that the temperature records themselves have set records of their own. This is the case with October 2015, according to new preliminary NASA data released Tuesday.
The information shows that October 2015 was by far the warmest October on record, dating back to 1880. Not only that, but October also had the largest temperature departure from average of any month on record. Continue reading.
